  USDA Organic Organic

Peace Cereal is committed to providing the highest quality ingredients, while also protecting the earth’s natural resources. Since 1991, we have worked at developing partnerships with socially and environmentally responsible companies to create the sources we need to provide you with healthy, organic foods. Our model is based on working with small farms and teaching techniques of preserving soil richness through the environment’s natural cycles – thereby avoiding a need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Our commitment to healthy natural products goes far beyond our quality ingredients. We adhere strictly to the prohibition of Genetically Modified ingredients required by the National Organic Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and by Quality Assurance International (QAI), our organic third party certifier. We are proud to now bear the USDA Organic Seal on all our cereals that are at least 95% organic.

Low Fat
Peace Cereal has many good choices for a delicious low fat breakfast. Most agree that Americans have too much fat in their diets – about 42 percent of our daily calories come from fat. The average American now eats 30 more grams of fat a day than we ate a hundred years ago. Much of this current intake is from "unhealthy" fats – saturated fats from animal products, hydrogenated oils, and foods deep-fried in cooking oils at high temperatures. Reducing your intake of these foods, and upping your intake of fruits and vegetables can significantly lower your risk of high cholesterol and triglycerides. Choosing a low fat cereal is one way to eat a great tasting, heart healthy breakfast. Learn more about why low fat eating is a choice for life at the USDA website.

  Heart Sense Heart Sense
When you pour yourself a bowl of Peace Cereal, you’re enjoying a breakfast with plenty of fiber, but without trans fats or cholesterol. This can help protect you against heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, every year nearly 1.5 million male and female Americans of all ages will suffer heart attacks. And while genetics plays a large role in heart disease; secondhand smoke, sedentary lifestyles, and diet all take their toll on heart health.

Adding foods to your diet containing antioxidants, fiber, foliate, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, as well as plenty of fruits, vegetables, and soy protein is one step you can take towards preventing heart disease. You’d be wise to avoid saturated fats, trans fatty acids, and cholesterol. It makes Heart Sense to start your day with a bowl of Essential 10 – with all the fiber you need and the great taste you love!

  Fiber
Whole grains found in breakfast cereals are an important source of fiber. Whole grains contain alkalinizing minerals – especially magnesium, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and the fiber that helps you feel more satisfied with fewer calories. A recent study found that people with high carbohydrate diets actually consumed about 300 less calories per day than the average person!

Whole grains such as such as oat, rice, and wheat may also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as lower cholesterol. A bowl of cereal is an easy way to add good tasting and health promoting dietary fiber to your breakfast.

Protein
Protein is very important to a healthy diet. While carbohydrates provide cells with energy, protein provides cells with the building material they need to grow and maintain their structure. The body is about 20 percent protein by weight. Beans, peas and other legumes are an excellent source of protein. If you include these in your diet, and also eat whole grains such as whole wheat, oats, corn, barley, millet, buckwheat, and rice, they provide the entire assortment of essential amino acids that are the building blocks of protein.

A good source of protein, along with the many nutrients needed to metabolize it, is a whole grain cereal. Along with a glass of milk, you’ll get the protein you need to kick start your day.
  Vegan
Nearly all Peace Cereals are vegan friendly foods. This means they are suitable for those who chose to eat an entirely plant-based diet without eggs, meat, fish, poultry, or dairy. Studies have suggested that eating Vegan could be a positive health choice for those with certain dietary problems. Both American and Australian studies found that high fiber vegan diets seemed to help decrease total cholesterol as well as aid in weight control.

If you choose a vegan diet, or are simply trying to eat high fiber and healthier foods, enjoy a bowl of Peace Cereal for breakfast and start your day right.

Folic Acid
Folic acid is a B vitamin needed for cell replication and growth. Studies suggest that this helpful vitamin may reduce the risk of heart disease and is an important vitamin for women of childbearing age. It’s so important to your body that in 1996 the FDA began to require that all enriched flour, rice, pasta, cornmeal, and other grain products – such as breakfast cereals – contain 140 mcg of folic acid per 100 grams. Starting your day with a bowl of Essential 10 is a good way to insure you’ll get the Folic acid you need and maintain a healthy heart.

  Carbohydrates
While refined, highly processed white flour carbohydrates can harm your health, eating whole grains and whole-grain foods is good for you. This food group can help regulate cholesterol and keep your digestive system healthy. It may also help you control your weight and support heart health.

Highly processed carbohydrates, such as white flour and white rice can cause a quick blast of blood sugar followed by a sudden drop in blood sugar. This large swing in blood sugar makes you hungry sooner than you should be, so you eat too much. Whole grains, like the kind found in natural cereals, bring slower, steadier increases in blood sugar which is much healthier. They also deliver far more fiber, vitamins, minerals and other healthful nutrients.

Rise in American Sugar Consumption Sugar
There are a number of reasons why eating low sugar, whole grain cereals are better for you. One reason is that the body is designed to maintain a fairly constant blood sugar level. Rapidly absorbed refined sweeteners cause blood sugar levels to climb. This leads to what some authorities call "sugar shock" or "sugar buzz" as the body turns foods such as cookies into simple sugars.

In certain people there can be a "let down" feeling. After the inevitable crash, the body again craves a quick "pick me up" snack to boost energy, resulting in an unhealthy spiral. Many Peace Cereals have far less sugar than other brands. Treat yourself to a crunchy and delicious bowl, and get the energy you need to keep you going throughout the busiest day!

  Soy Isoflavones
Numerous reports indicate that, because soy is high in isoflavones, it can prevent imbalances and promote good health. Isoflavones are compounds found only in plants and a type of phytoestrogen, or plant hormone, resembling human estrogen in chemical structure. By mimicking human estrogen at certain sites in the body, isoflavones provide many health benefits.

Isoflavones have been shown to help support a healthy heart and even relieve some menopausal symptoms. For more on why soy helps your health check out this article.

Omega 3s
Omega-3 fatty acids are a form of polyunsaturated fats that the body can only derive from food, such as the flaxseed found in breakfast cereals. A good intake of Omega-3 has been linked to easing moodiness, and other studies have shown that Omega-3 rich diets help protect the heart. All polyunsaturated fats, including the omega-3s, are increasingly recognized as important to good health. It is also important to balance omega-6 fatty acids with the omega-3 variety for optimum nutrition.

Because most people on a typical Western diet consume far more omega-6-rich foods (including baked goods, fried foods, margarine, and others), the ratio is out of balance for almost everyone. This means for most Americans the emphasis now needs to be on increasing omega-3s to make the ratio more even. ItŐs easy to enjoy Essential 10 and get your daily intake in a good tasting bowl of cereal.

Foods that offer Omega 3s
  Flaxseed oil   1 teaspoon
  Ground Flaxseed   1 tablespoon
  Canola oil   4 teaspoon
  Walnuts   1/4 cup
  Soybeans, mature   1 cup
  Tofu, firm   20 ounces
  Dark green
leafy vegetables
